Ocean Reef feels like an island in the Caribbean, but it's much easier to get to...
The Club is just 55 miles south of Miami International Airport, and an easy 65-minute drive by car on the Florida Turnpike.
A 4,000-foot airstrip allows members to land their own aircraft or arrive by chartered aircraft, although there is a limit on the number of jet operations allowed per day.
Just 28 nautical miles south of Miami, the Club’s 175-slip marina offers not only the most secure dockage in South Florida, but is a great home base for cruises to the Bahamas, Lower Keys, and the west coast of Florida.
Entry to the Club by land, sea and air is strictly controlled. Only members and invited guests are admitted through the Front Gate, into the airport or into the canals. For this reason, the U.S. Secret Service has call Ocean Reef Club one of the most secure communities in the United States.
The variety and excellence of the Club's activities and amenities is unequalled...
Ocean Reef’s unique location at the edge of the Gulf Stream, beside North America’s only living coral reef and close to the Everglades, makes it one the few places in the world, if not the only place, than can offer the angler superior deep sea, reef, flats and back-country fishing, all in one spot.
Sailfish, marlin, dolphin fish, grouper, snapper, bonefish, permit, tarpon, redfish and snook all live in the waters surrounding the Club. These same waters offer great diving, snorkeling, sea kayaking, sailing, and windsurfing. Guides, instructors, charter boats and equipment for all these sports are available through the Club’s Water Activities desk.
The Club offers two, well-maintained 18-hole championship golf courses. A driving range, two practice greens, a golf clubhouse, a fully-equipped pro shop that has been recognized as one of the best in North America and a staff of dedicated professionals complete the Club’s golf offerings. Many first-time guests are surprised by the lushness of the golf courses at The Reef, made possible by a community-owned reverse-osmosis water plant which converts salt water to fresh for irrigation.
Over the years, as members expressed their desire for additional amenities, more have been added: tennis courts lighted for night play, two croquet courts and a well-equipped fitness center. More recently, the Club has focused on developing programs for children in tennis, golf, swimming, sailing and fishing, as well as the Reef Kids and Reef Teens activities and programs.
As a result of the need of its full-time resident members, a vibrant community has come into being that is inseparable from the Club.
The most basic needs of this small town are met by a modern medical center where doctors are on call 24 hours a day and a first-rate Public Safety Department which provides security, emergency medical treatment and fire protection.
Beyond the basics, the community also supports a Cultural Center, a chapel, an Art League and library, a private school, a post office, a concert series, a Culinary Arts Center, a private charitable community foundation and other organizations like the Yacht Club, Sailing Club, Computer Club and Flying Club, as well as a wide variety of shops and services. Anything anyone could possibly need or want is just five minutes away by road cart or bicycle.
An active social life flourishes at Ocean Reef Club, centered around the annual events that draw all the members together: the member-guest tournaments, the Gathering! on Thanksgiving weekend, New Year’s Eve on the Beach and the Reef Cup sailfish tournament.
In the spring, the Celebration! Closes out the winter season and celebrates the homeowner acquisition of the Club. In between these major get-togethers, the Social Committee sponsors many other events – large and small – for all members.
Tradition is a powerful and compelling force among the members of Ocean Reef Club.
It is the glue that holds the years together and makes events repeat themselves in annual installments. The reef has many traditions – the teenagers driving road carts absorbed in their new-found freedom, the Saturday night Grand Seafood Buffet in the Ocean Room, the Member-Guest Golf Tournament every fall, the Easter Cart Parade and Santa arriving on Christmas Eve aboard the caroling boat – to name a few.
The Club’s traditions bring its members closer together at a place they love and where they hope to be years and generations into the future.
